Employee ownership of companies: Government initiative, City lawyer appointed

City law firm partner appointed to advise BIS on encouraging employee-owned companies

Graeme Nuttall, a partner at Field Fisher Waterhouse, has been appointed the Government’s independent adviser on promoting employee ownership of companies, as part of the work by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills in this area. From the BIS press release:

“The appointment follows the Deputy Prime Minister’s announcement in January of a new Government drive to introduce the concept of employee ownership into the mainstream British economy.

Norman Lamb is leading the cross-Whitehall work to investigate how Government can support this growing business model, which has seen the number of employee owned companies grow by 25 per cent in two years, from 200 in 2009 to 250 in 2011.”

That speech by the Deputy Prime Minister is here. BIS produced a “Guide to Mutual Ownership Models” in November 2011.
