European Round Table of Industrialists launches database of women candidates for directorships, and 23 European companies publish targets for promotion of women
The ERT today started a twin-track campaign to advance women into senior business positions:
1. Working with participating ERT members and three executive search firms, the ERT is to lead the creation of a database of “top female talent they believe to be qualified for non-executive or supervisory board positions in other companies”.
2. Twenty-three ERT member companies have declared voluntary targets for increasing the number of women in their senior ranks.
The context to these voluntary measures is the expectation that the European Commission may move towards legislating for mandatory quotas for women on boards. Viviane Reding, the EU Justice Commissioner, is scheduled to give an update on the Commission’s plans next week.
