Competition Commission and OFT to be merged to create a single “Competition and Markets Authority”

Government consultation on bringing “the Competition Commission and the OFT’s competition functions into a single organisation and to modernise its competition toolkit”

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has today given more information on its plans to merge the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading, creating a new Competition and Markets Authority. The BIS press release is here, the BIS consultation page is here and the consultation document is here.

As these proposals have already been widely consulted on, this new consultation will be something of a fait accompli.

The Lawyer Magazine has reaction from various City competition lawyers here. The consultation closes on 13 June 2012.
